CFTC approves Kalshi expanded event contracts for sports and entertainment

The CFTC has formally approved Kalshi's expanded suite of event contracts, allowing the regulated prediction market exchange to list contracts on major US sports leagues and entertainment events.

The approval covers NFL playoff outcomes, NBA championship and MVP awards, and Academy Award categories. This is the first time the CFTC has explicitly approved sports outcome contracts for a registered Designated Contract Market (DCM).

Kalshi CEO Tarek Mansour called it "a watershed moment for the industry." The contracts are expected to go live within 30 days, pending final technical review.
